If you prefer to use something a bit quicker, and are on a Windows computer, you may want to try mIRC. The software is available for Windows 3.1 and Win95. There are also instructions for recording your nickname and password into mIRC on the software page.
We're going to start the chat schedule Tues, Thurs and Sunday evenings at 9:00pm EST. If they prove to be very popular we'll add some hosts and a few more chats. If you are interested in being a host, let me know at csimmerman@noqers.org.
Now just read the brief instructions, click the link to the chat room, and join us! Happy Chatting!
Registering
Go to http://enroll.talkcity.com and fill in the forms to secure your nickname. (Hint: when I couldn't use Loons anymore, I substituted zeros for the o's.) Once you submit this, it should send you an email in a few minutes with your temp password. If it doesn't, then go to http://enroll.talkcity.com/login and put your nickname in the "forgot password" spot and it will send you a copy.
Now that you have your name & password, you'll need to go back to the login page (above) and finalize the process. You can stick as much or as little on your web site as you'd like, and if you do some great quilt stuff, let me know, because I'll link it to NOQ. Now you can follow the Login instructions (next) to get to the chat room.
Logging In
Follow the link below to get to EZ Talk at Talk City.
Enter your nickname and your password. After this first time, your browser may keep your nickname there, so you only have to enter your password each time.
Now click the Start Chatting button.
If this is the very first time you are chatting with EZ Talk, it will take a few minutes to load the program, just sit and watch. It may also take a minute or two to connect to the chat after the software is finished loading.
You will know you are ready to chat when the main part of the screen changes.
Now you are ready to chat. To join in, just type what you want to say in the empty box beneath the chatter, and then press your Enter key or click on the Send Message button located at the end of the message box. Your words will appear in the scroll along with everyone else's.
On the left hand side of the EZ Talk Screen, you'll see a list of nicknames appear. These are the people currently in the room you have entered. You can use the scroll bar along the right side to look at the entire list. Some of the nicknames will be in red or purple -- those are the room operators and hosts. You can change settings on various nicknames by clicking on the nick itself, and then one of the buttons along the bottom:
When you're finished chatting, you can either click on the Done Chatting button, at the top of the EZ Talk Main Window, or on the X button in the upper right hand corner of the scroll. Your settings for EZ Talk will be recorded automatically for the next time.
